The line between saying the right thing and putting your foot in your mouth is very fine. Make a very conscious attempt to edit your thoughts before you actually let them out of your mouth. If this is a particularly sensitive time for a friend or family member, then you need to be extra-careful with what you say around them. They probably won't hold a thoughtless comment against you for long, but your insensitivity might really hurt them, so watch yourself.
