Long week behind, hopefully better week ahead. Our central ac/heating unit went kerplunk on Friday (or sometime Thu night). I called several repair places and finally got a real person (apparently some businesses don't open at a reasonable hour). Anyway, the wires were fried and the fan, compressor and all that stuff are toast. Thank goodness we got someone out because the unit was smoking. (we don't have a ladder tall enough to allow access to the roof so we would not have known anything until the house caught fire *whew*). So, we are getting a brand new heat pump tomorrow. It's money we really didn't need to spend right now but we will save quite a lot on our power bill come summer time. *sigh* So no heat for us all weekend. We pulled out the big down comforter that we used back in Denver. Getting up the in mornings have been very difficult. Warm in the bed and cold out of it. Luckily we do live in a very good climate. Even though the temps have been below average still it's gotten up to 60-65F so the house warms up to something tolerable during the day.
On the bright side, a friend we met on the .net was in town for a techie conference. We got to spend lots of time with her! It was good fun. We talked and we introduced her to Coupling and Good Eats and Monk (she doesn't have cable). It was really great to just hang out all weekend with a very interesting and charming person.
